As we progress through the month of October, it's always a great idea to have a few good novels at hand while curled up behind locked doors with all the lights on in your home; so here are a few books to consider reading as we near Halloween.

The Rot and Ruin series by Jonathan Maberry consists of four books and tells the tale of survivors of a zombie apocolypse.

Next is the general suggestion of just about any book written by Stephen King; most contain gruesome murder of some kind or at least a bit of terror to keep your toes away from the edge of your bed at night.

For our younger readers, we recommend R.L. Stine's Goosebumps, which are fantastic and usually an easy read, and a few of them even allow the reader to make decisions which alter how the book ends.

On top of that, Double-Dare to Be Scared by Robert D. San Souci contains thirteen chilling tales to get our young readers just a little bit frightened.

Our final recommendation is Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, which tells the tale of a strange boy named Bod who lives in a graveyard.

We here at the Ontonagon Township Library hope you have a spooky Halloween.
