ALANSON AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY  

 REGULAR BOARD MEETING

  May 3, 2017

The monthly meeting of the Alanson Area Public Library Board was called to order by President, Joan Niewiadomski at 6:00 pm.  Those present were Anne Billiard, Janet Batog, Pat McFarland, BR Smith, Sue Warner, and  Library Director, Anna LaRue. 

No guests present.

Minutes:     Minutes of the April 13, regular board meeting were approved with one correction.  A question was raised concerning the wording of the March 2, 2017 minutes.  This was also corrected.

Treasurer’s Report: 

•        Bills paid for the month of April were presented for initialing.

•        Liabilities and equities as of April 30: $123,221.67

•        State Aid check received

•        Village of Alanson  payment received

•        A donation for $436.05 was received from First Federal of Northern Michigan.

•        Motion was made by BR and supported by Pat to approve payment of April bills.   Payment approved.

•        Motion by Pat and supported by BR to accept the treasurer's report.  Report approved.

Director’s Report:

•        Cash and usage report was reviewed. Donations continue to be made, which is nice!

•        Program report:

•        Raptor program had about 40 in attendance.

•        Navajo Code Talkers Program is May 17, at 7:00 pm

•         Book Club book for  June will be: 'The Underground Railroad', by Colson Whitehead

•        Approved purchase of a DVD player

•        Sue Kissinger's evaluation was completed.

•        Anna asked for additional time off over the Memorial Day Holiday.

•        Anne moved to approve report, supported by Pat, report accepted.

Unfinished :

•        New trustee/treasurer position will not be official until nominated and approved by the township board at the June meeting.  

•        Official by-laws of the village and township relating to the appointment of library trustees is being reviewed and  updated.

•        Trustees will attend Alanson Village meeting on May 8, at 7:00 pm, and the Maple River Township Council meeting on May 15, at 7:30 pm.

•        Budget workshop meeting is May 24, at 6:00 pm

•        Policy review - each trustee will review policies and any necessary updates and/or changes to be discussed at the June meeting.

New Business:

•        FOAL meeting, May 18, at 6:00 pm

•        Approved salary increase for Sue Kissinger

•        Regular meeting and Budget meeting on June 7, at 6:00 pm.  Joan will post budget meeting notice in Harbor Light.
