                                                                                                              Regular Monthly Board Meeting

                                                                                                                              May 9, 2018         

 

The regular monthly meeting of the Alanson Area Public Library Board was called to order by President, Joan Niewiadomski, at 6:00 p.m.  Trustees present were Janet Batog, Pat McFarland, BR Smith and Sue Warner, and Library Director, Anna LaRue.

Guests:  Mr. Jack Trumble was introduced to the board as the newly elected president of FOAL.

Minutes:   Minutes of the April 11, meeting were approved with corrections.

Treasurer’s Report:

•         Bills for April were presented for initialing.

•         Motion by BR to approve the bill payments for April; supported by Sue.  Payments approved. 

•          Profit and loss statements were presented.

•         Total liabilities and equity as of April 30, 2018: $154,486.80

•         CD matured, decision was made to roll it over for 5 years.

•         Sue, moved to accept the treasurer’s report, supported by Pat.  Report accepted.

Library Director’s Report:

•         Programs:

                               Book Club book of the month:  “Nightingale”, by Kristin Hannah

                   April 25, 7:00 pm; Emmet County Sheriff Canine dog, “ Ares”, was very well attended

                   May 23, 7:00 “Voyage of the Southern Cross”, with Howard Rice

                   August 22, “Kanapima” with Eric Hemenway

                   October 24, “A Starry Night”, with John Riggs; Anna discussed buying a telescope for                 

                    lending to patrons.

·          2nd graders from Alanson came for library tour and each were given a new book.

·         Anna discussed her attendance at the Rural Libraries Conference

·          Friendship Township approved the library sub-station

·         Ancestry .Com, and Hoopla programs are up for renewal – FOAL donation should cover costs

·         Sue moved to approve report, support from Janet, report approved.

UnfinishedBusiness:

Letter of resignation was received from Pat McFarland; Trustee from the village will be needed to fill the vacancy

New Business:

·         Betsy’s  evaluation due next month

·         May 24, 6:00 – budget workshop meeting (Thurs.)

·         June 6, -budget meeting followed by regular monthly meeting

·         July meeting will be the 5th, (Thurs.) due to the 4th on Wednesday.

·         Joan to have hip replacement surgery June 21!
