 Regular Monthly Board Meeting

 September 12, 2018

 

The monthly meeting of the Alanson Area Public Library Board was called to order by President, Joan Niewiadomski, at 6:02 p.m.  Those present were trustees Janet Batog, Sue Brants, B.R.Smith, and Sue Warner, and Library Director, Anna LaRue.

 

Our first order of business was to welcome our new trustee, Sue Brants.

 

Minutes:   Minutes of the August 1, meeting were approved with two corrections.

Treasurer’s Report:

·         Reconciled bank statement from August and bills paid for August were presented for initialing.

·         All township contracts are now paid

·         Total equity and liabilities: $114,751.03

·         Motion to approve bill payments for August was made by Sue B. and supported by Sue W. Approved payments

·         Motion to approve report made by Sue W. supported by BR.  Report approved.

Library Director’s Report:

•         Monthly cash and usage report was presented.

•         Ron Fowler has been nominated for the “eddi award”.

•         Programs:

There were approximately 55 in attendance for Eric Hemenway’s program  

 On September 26, David Lyle will speak on: “The Civil War’s Dahlgren Cannons in Northern Michigan”.

Story hour will begin n 9-18 for 6 weeks, ending 10/23

·         Using the Wortley donation for ‘free libraries’ for the outlying townships was discussed; Anna to check with an Amish woodworker about the construction.

•         A question was asked in regards to part time employee leave time. The policy was reviewed. A motion to amend the present policy was made by Janet and supported by Sue W. The policy now reads: “Upon initial eligibility, regular part-time employees who work year round  an average of 16 hours per week, will earn leave time. Amount of time, based on years of employment: 0-3 yrs.=3 days; 4-7 yrs.= 4 days; 7+ yrs.=5 days.”  Amendment approved.

•         Anna will attend the Nor-Cor Librarians meeting on Oct. 5.

•         Lighting issue still has not been resolved; Sue will check with Wayne’s Electric

•         Annual furnace check was done and no issues.

Unfinished Business:

        Sue Brant’s official welcome following the appointment by the village council, on Monday 9/10/18

 

New Business:

        October meeting date change:   October 10, at 6:00
