Board Meeting March 2019

ALANSON AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY

REGULAR BOARD MEETING

March 6, 2019

 

The monthly meeting of the Alanson Area Public Library Board was called to order by Vice President, BR Smith, at 6:00 pm.  Those present were trustees Janet Batog, Sue Brants, and Sue Warner, and library director, Anna LaRue.  Joan Niewiadomski was absent.  No guests were in attendance.

Minutes:      Minutes of the February 6, 2019 regular board meeting were approved, with one correction.

                      

Treasurer‘s Report:

·         Reconciled bank statements were presented for initialing, as were the bills paid for the month.

·         Sue W. made the motion to approve the payment of the bills for February, supported by Sue B.  Payment approved.

·         Checking balance as of 2/15/19: $32567.13

·         Contract letters sent to townships; two responses to date; Harbor Springs – yes; city manager, Tom Richards is retiring; and Little Traverse – yes!!!

Sue W. moved to accept the treasurer’s report, supported by Sue B., report accepted.

Director’s Report:

·         Cash and usage report was reviewed.

·         Book Club:  April selection is –“Educated”, by Tara Westover

·         Programs:

o   Tom Bailey – June 26; 7:00 pm

o   David Kaplan – July 31, 7;00 pm

·         New computers installed; two old ones purchased by patrons

·         Friendship and Readmond Township visits to be scheduled in April and May.

·         Lights in foyer- White Pine responded quickly and ballasts need replacing.  Same fix as previous diagnoses. Waiting for parts.

·         Anna will attend a mini conference for small libraries on April 29 and 30.

·         Anna, will again the Alanson parent/teacher conferences to sign more students up for library cards.

·         mBank will be making another donation – need to qualify need. Programs, was suggested.

·         The need for a sun blocking film on front windows was explained.  Anna will check and proceed.

Sue W. moved to accept the director’s report, supported by Janet.  Report accepted.

At 6:30, the motion was made and seconded, to move into closed session to review Anna’s yearly evaluation.

Regular meeting resumed at 6:40.

Old Business:                                                                                                                                                                                                               

·         FOAL’s “Wine Tasting” fund raiser was Feb. 9, at Crooked Vine Vineyard and Winery; Very successful.

              The resignation of the President, Jack Trumble, was announced.

New Business:

 

·         Book sale – March 16 from 10-2; set up Friday, March 15, at 3:00.
