Alanson Area Public Library
Wireless Policy – Adopted 4/13/16

          The Alanson Area Public Library supports Internet access by library users who bring in their own laptops and connect through the Library’s network. This access is provided as a service free of charge on an as-is basis with no guarantee and no warranty. There is a potential security risk and virus risk for anyone who connects to a public network. The Alanson Area Public Library and Superiorland Library Cooperative and its ISP are not liable for any security breaches or viruses that may occur as a result of using the public network.

     The Library is not setup for e-commerce and does not guarantee security for data transferred through the Library and Superiorland Library Cooperative Internet connection. The Library cannot guarantee immediate connectivity to the Internet, nor can it guarantee high speed or stable connection to the Internet. The Library and Superiorland Library Cooperative and its ISP are not responsible for any failure to provide an Internet connection or for dropped or slow Internet connections. The Library and Superiorland Library Cooperative and its ISP are not responsible for any monetary or other losses whatsoever that may occur during the public’s use of the Library’s Internet connection.

 Terms and Conditions of Use:

·         The Internet Use and Privacy Policies of the Alanson Area Public Library apply to any use of the wireless network.

·         Information passing through the Library’s wireless network is not secured and could be monitored, captured or altered by others.

·         It is the patron’s sole responsibility to protect his/her information from all risks associated with using the Internet, including any damage, loss or theft that may occur as a result of use of the library wireless access.

·         The wireless network is unfiltered.  In accordance with Michigan law, Michigan P.A. 212, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to use the library’s wireless network; or in the case of an unaccompanied minor using his/her own device to access the wi-fi network, possession of the device is considered by the Library to be implied consent by the parent/guardian.

·         Library staff is not able to provide technical assistance and assumes no responsibility for laptop configurations, security or changes to data files resulting from connection to the Library’s network.
The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment; users must keep their equipment with them at all times and may only use electrical outlets at public tables.
In using the free Internet access, the customer agrees and hereby releases, indemnifies, and hold harmless the Village of Alanson, Littlefield Township, Alanson Area Public Library, Superiorland Library Cooperative, and all its employees from any damage that may result from use of this wireless network.

·         While using this wireless network, the patron acknowledges that he/she is subject to, and agrees to abide by all laws, and all rules and regulations of the Alanson Area Public Library, the Village of Alanson, Littlefield Township, the State of Michigan, and the federal government that is applicable to Internet use.

·         Printing is not available via the wireless connection.
